The U15 Challenge Cup Events are a competition for youth curlers (Age Restriction: Open to players aged fourteen (14) or younger as of June 30, 2021 (born on or after July 1, 2006). Teams comprised of four players. Any combination of players may be utilized (4 male, 4 female, or 4 mixed). Athletes may be from any CurlON or NOCA affiliated club. Teams can be of any skill level, and composition of players - I.e. all players will have to play all positions, therefore having a traditntal skip is not necessary. Out of province players are welcome, but they must come from a Curling Canada Member Association affiliated club.

About the Event:

This event differs from others as it will introduce teams to two new disciplines (Triples and Singles) being used to develop new curlers in Curling Canada's Youth Feeder System.

Triples:

Triples is an exciting format used to teach curlers to become more well-rounded. Teams will play three 2-end sets, the first two sets are worth two points each, the third set is worth four points. Players rotate positions every set giving all players on the team the change to throw last rock, call strategy, judge/sweep on their own. Team coaches will be permitted on the ice throughout the whole game to counsel and teach their teams strategy, etc. Each team will play four (six-end) triples games as part of the competition.

Singles:

All members of the team will also play Singles. Players will throw a set number of shots (different weights, different areas of the sheet, both turns), scores will be recorded. The foundational skills involved in this competition are critical for all successful curlers to have in their skill set.

Here's where the competition gets fun! Scores from the Triples and Singles Competition will be totalled to create an aggregate score, which will be used to seed teams for the Fours competition! Each team will play at least one traditional fours game (6 ends) on the final day of competition to determine the Bronze, Silver and Gold medalists of the U15 Challenge Cup!

Certified Coaches will receive Professional Development Credits towards their NCCP Maintenance of Certification - but you do not need to be certified or even a coach to help a team on the ice during this event. Any coach accompanying a team to this event must have a valid police check on file with CurlON or NOCA. Coaches must create a profile in Sideline Learning and complete the U15 Coach Portfolio requirements. which includes information regarding Safe Sport behaviour.

Each curler must have an online Curler Profile in Curling IO, filed out by a parent. The curler's will also create a profile in Sideline Learning and complete the U15 Athlete Portfolio requirements.
